QA Automation Engineer
I had a call with the recruiter, then a Zoom interview with the team lead. After that, I had an in-person task interview with the group lead at their office. Both interviewers asked about my age, which I found odd. I brought it up with the recruiter, who didn't initially understand why it was an issue. After I sent her some info on interviewees' rights, she apologized and understood. The on-site was pretty stressful. I had 2.5 hours for a task in a glass-doored room. The office was loud, making it hard to focus. The group lead checked in hourly, asking about the task's difficulty and my stress levels. He didn't seem to fully grasp my questions, giving brief, automatic replies. I didn't finish the task in 2.5 hours, but he let me continue working and left without a return time. After another 45 minutes, he returned. I was feeling lost and overwhelmed. He initially seemed impatient but softened, sharing a personal story to calm me. He offered to let me submit the task the next day, though I suspect it was more to comfort me than a genuine offer to extend the process.
- Regarding the task, it seems the expectation was to use a for loop instead of pandas features.
Customer Success Manager
So, I was interviewing for a Strategic Customer Success Manager role and found out through unofficial sources that they were laying off people in the department I was applying to. The HR person wasn't totally silent, but they were super unprofessional, giving me one-sentence answers and no updates about the layoffs. The interview process itself was long: a recruiter call, then interviews with the Director, Manager, VP, and SVP of CS. I really thought I was going to get an offer after talking to the senior leaders and feeling like we clicked. But instead, I found out indirectly that they were cutting jobs even though they still had CS openings advertised. The whole lack of honesty and communication made it obvious this wasn't the place for me. Dodged a bullet there.
- Why are you looking for a new job, and what are your current duties and responsibilities?
- Imagine you're the CSM for Lincoln Park in Chicago, and Taylor Swift cancels a concert, leading to ticket refunds. Lincoln Park then tells you that Chance the Rapper is replacing her. How would you figure out which ticket holders to inform about this switch, and what tools and factors would you consider?
- How would you decide which ticket holders to notify about the concert change, using what tools and considerations?
Customer Facing Role
Got a LinkedIn message from a recruiter. The first call with them was cool. The second interview was kinda weird though. The manager interviewing me seemed all over the place, and just said they were trying to see why I wouldn't be a good fit. They mentioned their processes weren't great and the bonus was paid quarterly. They mostly talked about themselves and barely asked me anything. I left still interested in the company and wanting to know more about what I learned, but confused how one interview went so well and the next felt rushed, like a totally different company than what the recruiter described. The company itself sounds neat, but the interviewer really killed the good vibe. I would have passed on a 3rd interview anyway, so I wasn't surprised when I didn't get an offer.
- What are your thoughts on our company's business?
Data Analyst
The whole process for this data analyst role took about 2 weeks, with quick updates. It included a 15-minute recruiter chat, a 30-minute meeting with the hiring manager, and a take-home assignment due in 5 days. After that, there was a debrief with the data team, followed by a 1-hour technical interview, which is pretty much the final hurdle. If you get past that, you'll have a final interview with a VP or CTO. Even though I didn't get the job, Placer.ai was really helpful, answering my questions about the assignment and giving feedback on how to improve for next time. It's a good company.
- Can you walk me through your career journey?
- Which tech tool do you find most interesting and explain your reasoning?
- Could you describe a dashboard you've created?
