The interview felt totally off the mark for the industry and the role. The interviewer drilled down on niche JavaScript stuff that's hardly ever used, and none of the questions felt like they were actually testing what the job needs or what you'd do day-to-day. It was weird why these specific things were being asked, and it made me wonder if they're even assessing people on the right things. Honestly, it felt like a total waste of my time, didn't show if I could actually code for the job or if I was ready.

I had a 30-minute phone call with an interviewer who asked me about my resume. Then, they scheduled a 1.5-hour technical interview. There's also a 1.5-hour home challenge, though I'm not sure what it entails. The interviewer was very thorough during our technical chat, asking me about every detail of the architecture I worked on, including Redis specifics, distributed systems concepts like load balancers, relational databases, vertical scaling, and OOP principles like inheritance and interfaces.

Behavioral Coding System Design

All meetings were remote, and the process lacked consistency in question difficulty, making it feel like I was interviewing for two different jobs, one easy and one hard. It included a 30-minute screening interview, a 1.5-hour interview with the hiring manager, a 1-hour online HackerRank coding test, and a 1.5-hour interview with the back-end manager.

  • Can you decode an ASCII-encoded string (a-z, A-Z, 0-9)?
