First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at PHD Worldwide.
Associate Director
The interview process usually involves a few rounds with senior leaders and the main account team. It's all about seeing how you think strategically, your experience, how you work with others, if you're a good fit for the company culture, and how you'd handle actual client problems.
- Could you describe a previous project you were involved in?
Director
I interviewed for a position and was told by the interviewer they wanted to make an offer. Of course, nothing is official until in writing, but then the recruiter gaslit me for 4 months before they eventually told me they weren't going to make an offer. It was rude and condescending and no feedback was provided.
- What are your reasons for wanting to work here?
Assistant Strategist
I interviewed twice with this company for the same role, Assistant Strategist in San Francisco, CA. The first time was in December 2017, and I only got past the phone interview. The second time was in August 2019, and I was offered the job. Both interviews were relevant to the role. The first time, I didn't get past the phone screen because I lacked media marketing experience. They were honest about it. Two years later, I applied again with more experience from another agency. The process was similar, with an in-person interview talking to team members and the leader. I did well and felt a connection. I declined the offer because the salary was non-negotiable and much lower than the average for this position, especially in San Francisco. They offered overtime, which suggests a poor work-life balance for an already low-paying job, showing they don't invest in their workers.
- The starting salary for an Assistant Strategist is 34K plus overtime, and this is not up for negotiation. Can you confirm if this is acceptable to you?
Strategist
I was contacted by Omnicom HR about opportunities at some of their agencies and started interviewing with PhD. I interviewed for one team with two people for an hour, 30 minutes each. HR then told me they changed the position to associate and wanted me to interview with two more teams. I spoke with two people from each team for 30 minutes each, making it a two-hour interview process. All of these could have likely been done with one person from the team or in a shorter time as they asked the same questions. I followed up with the interviewers and HR but got no feedback and never heard back. While I might not have been the right fit for the agency, after all the time I invested, they didn't show me the respect to give me a response.
