First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at PHD Worldwide.
Strategist
So I had two interviews for this job a while back. The first one had 3 people interviewing me at the same time. Then, the second interview was with the Associate Strategy Director. After that one, they told me I was probably overqualified and they were actually looking for someone who was more into public speaking.
- How do you keep yourself updated on current trends?
- What's your process for selecting a media platform for a campaign?
Strategist
I was contacted by Omnicom HR about opportunities at some of their agencies and started interviewing with PhD. I interviewed for one team with two people for an hour, 30 minutes each. HR then told me they changed the position to associate and wanted me to interview with two more teams. I spoke with two people from each team for 30 minutes each, making it a two-hour interview process. All of these could have likely been done with one person from the team or in a shorter time as they asked the same questions. I followed up with the interviewers and HR but got no feedback and never heard back. While I might not have been the right fit for the agency, after all the time I invested, they didn't show me the respect to give me a response.
- What media tools do you know?
- Are you familiar with our products?
- Can you describe your experience with planning across different media channels?
Strategist
The interview process started with a simple phone screening. After that, a recruiter reached out for an in-person interview with an account manager. During the in-person part, they asked basic questions like listing three strengths and describing a weakness. They also wanted to know why I was interested in advertising and marketing, expecting a detailed understanding of the role. Some interviewers were friendlier than others. It's crucial to research the company beforehand because they'll test your knowledge about it. They're looking for someone with strong Excel skills and will ask for detailed explanations of how you use it, including pivot tables, if statements, vlookups, and other graphs and formulas.
- Can you elaborate on your proficiency with Excel?
- What motivates your interest in digital marketing?
