Had an initial informal chat, then a formal interview (Round 1) which went really well. After that, I was given a case study to work on, which I spent a lot of time on and documented in a Word doc. Then came the next round, which had two parts. First, I presented the case study, which was a bit awkward as the interviewer didn't seem engaged. In the second part of that round, the interviewer asked me about the case study, and when I started discussing it, I realized he might not have even reviewed my submission. I asked 'did you look at my case study,' and after a pause, he said 'No.' I immediately regretted asking and then just fumbled through the remaining five minutes. He was also responding to emails during our call and cut the interview short.

First, there was a video call with HR. Then, I had an interview that involved a case study (using a slide deck and Excel sheet) and a behavioral round with an associate. The final round was in person in Boston and included a couple of interview rounds and an in-person group case study.

It was a really nice interview. They wanted to really understand what makes me tick and why I wanted to join the firm, and specifically why I thought I was a good fit for this role, rather than something more investment-focused. The process involved: Round 1: a multiple choice math test, a grammar/spelling test, a formal writing skills assessment, followed by a 1-hour interview with a senior associate and another hour with HR. Round 2: consisted of a one-hour interview with two team members, and then another hour-long interview with a different team member. Round 3: involved an interview with the COO.

So for Partners Capital, the interview process is pretty structured and tough. First, there's a phone screen where you talk one-on-one with the hiring manager. They'll ask about your background, why you want the job, and if you get what the role is about. A big part is explaining the job description yourself, to see if you understood it and can explain it well. If that goes well, you move on to a second round, which is a panel of three interviews back-to-back with different people from the team. Each person has a different focus, like checking your skills, seeing if you fit the culture, and how you think. It's a bit weird, but they also want to see your college transcript and SAT scores, which shows they really care about smarts and strong academic backgrounds.
