First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at OOCL.
Management Trainee
We started with an ice breaker, followed by a group discussion, and then a panel interview. It was very traditional and formal, with 10-14 people in each round. I'm not sure if they can really screen candidates this way; it probably depends more on which university you graduated from than your interview performance.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- Tell me about a time you faced a certain situation and how you handled it.
Customer Service Representative
The interview process was quite strange. The two managers were really snobby and rude. Even though I met all the qualifications, they acted like it was odd that I had only worked at my last job for almost 4 years, as they tend to prefer people with about 10 years of experience in the same role. To make matters worse, I know an employee there, and apparently, they were talking negatively about what I wore to the interview, saying I didn't dress well, which they claimed was why I wasn't hired, even though I dressed very modestly and professionally. The HR person later contacted me to offer to keep my application for another position, but at that point, I was so put off by the two managers that I was done with the company.
- Could you explain why you haven't stayed at your previous jobs for longer than 10 years?
Software Engineer
The first part was a video call with HR, which was a pleasant experience. They mostly inquired about my background. Then, there was a technical interview with two people, one from Product Management and one Software Architect. They weren't the friendliest and kept challenging my answers with what felt like outdated information.
- What are your reasons for using older technology stacks on your current projects?
VDC Coordinator
The interview process wasn't too tough because the interviewer was really understanding and empathetic. I was able to talk about my previous experiences, and she was so understanding. She looked at my past jobs on my application without any judgment, especially considering the periods of instability due to the pandemic.
- Can you discuss your previous job experience and industry knowledge?
- Could you describe the role and its relevance to this position?
