First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Nordea Bank.
Software Engineer
The interview process included personal questions like 'Tell me about yourself,' 'What are your strengths?', and 'What are your weaknesses, and why?'. There was also a request to highlight a project, detailing what you did and learned. Technical questions covered topics such as a specific financial instrument, the impact of increasing inflation, and performing an inner outer merge in Python.
- Could you introduce yourself?
- What are your key strengths?
- Could you elaborate on your weaknesses and the reasons behind them?
Quantitative Risk Analyst
I had a teams call in November with the potential lead and manager for the position. The entire interview lasted about an hour and was heavily focused on me, where I spoke for about 30-35 minutes straight, answering several questions and walking them through my career history. After that, they told me I'd hear back about the next steps by the end of that week or the beginning of the next. I waited for nearly a month and figured I hadn't passed. The hiring manager then said they liked me and wanted to schedule another call in early January for detailed feedback on my interview. This call never happened, which is pretty disappointing because you say you're going to do something and then just ghost the candidate. It's one of the worst post-interview experiences I've had.
- Can you explain PD estimation?
- How do you compute ECL?
- What tools have you used?
Communications Specialist
I had just one interview, but the salary offered was low. Before the interview, I was asked an unrelated question about my appearance, which I couldn't specify for anonymity. While I get why some might ask such questions, it wasn't professional. Declining to answer puts you in a tough spot as it might make you seem rude, and you're kind of forced to answer something irrelevant. The application part was simple enough. They said they'd call with feedback after the interview, but they sent an email the day before with an hour-long time slot. Honestly, I think it's better not to offer feedback if companies don't have the resources for everyone.
- Would you rather work independently or as part of a team?
Product Owner
So first there was this initial screening by the recruiters, and then I had a chat with the hiring manager and one of the team members. We talked about technical stuff, my grasp of SAFe, how I work with people, and my past projects. It did drag on a bit, but they were upfront about what to expect and the timeline. They didn't move forward with me, which is fine, but the whole thing was handled pretty professionally. Could have used a little more detailed feedback on why I wasn't the right fit, though.
- Could you explain the distinctions between functional and non-functional requirements and also between joins and inner-joins?
- In your opinion, what methods would you use to collect valuable requirements, and how would you deal with expectations that seem unrealistic?
- How would you handle situations where priorities clash?
