First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at NiSource.
Communications Manager
Had a phone screen with the recruiter in late November, followed by an interview with the hiring manager(s) in late January. Repeatedly asked for updates and got radio silence, then the generic rejection notice. One of the worst interview processes I've ever experienced. Total waste of time.
- Tell me about your media relations experience.
Engineer
The interview process is quite lengthy and moves slowly. Be prepared to use the STAR method, and research typical competencies like adaptability beforehand, as the questions will focus on these. The interview itself isn't overly challenging, but the overall process takes a while.
- Tell me about a challenging situation you encountered, whether with a coworker or a project.
Enterprise Architect
I applied online and it took them 4 weeks to get back to me. I had a quick screening call with HR and then the interview with the hiring manager happened within a week after they contacted me. The interviews were short, 30 minutes. My issue with the process was HR. I didn't hear back for several weeks after the interview. When I called and left a message, they never returned my call. They never responded to my emails. The only time I was able to talk to the recruiter was when he picked up the phone one of the times I called. After 4 weeks from the second interview, I got a generic form email with the "insert title" still in the text rejection. Following today's environment, I received no feedback on why I did not move forward in the interview process.
- What actions would you take in your initial 30 days?
IT Analyst
The interview process was all over the place and inconsistent, with no follow-up. It felt like they weren't sure what they were looking for or how this role fit into their plans. The interviewers didn't seem to know about the previous or next steps as I moved through. They didn't stick to any follow-up times, and I had to constantly reach out to keep things moving. I even made it to the final round a few times but was never told when a decision was made.
