A recruiter reached out to me about the position. I then met with the hiring manager, an HRBP, and the GCHRO. It was a pretty straightforward interview process. The hiring manager kept in touch with me for about a month via WhatsApp, but then I just got an automated rejection email out of the blue. It’s a bit frustrating, you know? I mean, if I took the time to visit your office, the least you could do is give me a quick call or even a text for an update. I can only imagine how they handle other applicants. Honestly, checking out their reviews, I think I probably dodged a bullet here.

So for the application, we had to submit a written essay. Then, Round 1 was an assessment centre where we were put into groups of five with other applicants for the same institution. We had to do a case study, and they gave us reading materials beforehand. They were looking at how we worked in a team, communicated, and approached the task. Round 2 was a panel interview with senior management. They asked personal and aptitude-based questions and we talked about why we were interested in healthcare and the role to see if we were a good fit overall.

I had a really unpleasant interview with the Chief Pharmacist. He seemed defensive and got agitated easily when talking about some things. Instead of checking my skills or experience, he mostly asked about my past failures and talked a lot. It felt more like a lecture than an interview. It seems like there might be some issues at IMH based on patient reviews, and my interview experience kind of reflected that. It definitely wasn't a respectful or constructive process. To management: please train your interviewers to be professional, respectful, and structured. Candidates should be assessed on their abilities, not grilled on personal failures.

After my resume got selected for the Healthcare Management Associate Programme (HMAP), I was invited to an Assessment Center at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Before that, I had to read a bunch of articles about the healthcare industry. At the assessment center, there were about 80 of us and we were split into groups of 4-5. We did an icebreaker and then the main part of the assessment: a PW-style problem-solving exercise where we had to come up with an innovative solution for healthcare problems faced by three target groups. We couldn't use the internet or ChatGPT and had to write our ideas on a flipboard. We discussed for about 60 minutes, took a break, and then had another 75 minutes of discussion. After that, each group presented their solution for 8 minutes, followed by a 20-minute Q&A with the assessors. I heard that only one person from each group would be selected for the next round. Unfortunately, I haven't heard back from NHG since the assessment center, so I assume I was unsuccessful, especially since the supposed start date was in May.
