First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at National General Insurance.
Commercial Underwriter
A few months back, I applied for a Renewal Underwriter job at National General. Right after applying, a recruiter reached out, and then I had a virtual interview with two underwriting managers. After that, the recruiter said she'd let me know after chatting with the managers. Then, the job posting disappeared, and I thought a decision was made. But the recruiter said her meeting with the managers was postponed. A week later, she said my application was still being processed. While waiting, I kept applying elsewhere. Then, I saw the same job reposted. A week after that, the recruiter told me National General decided not to proceed with my application. I want to say the recruiter was communicative and tried her best to update me. But the whole process felt messy and confusing. The long silence, seeing the job reposted, and then getting rejected was annoying. It seemed like the company's hiring process was disorganized or they weren't serious about filling the roles.
- Can you share an instance where you had to manage a challenging coworker relationship and describe your approach to resolving it?
Claims Adjuster Trainee
There were about three interviews total. The first one was you doing a self audio recording answering work related questions. The second one was a phone call with a claims manager asking you more personal questions to get to know you while also asking employment questions. Then if they are somewhat interested in you it’ll be followed by a video call with a higher up after that if you’re selected you’ll receive a final phone call that leads to an offer.
- How would you handle having multiple tasks to do at work?
Data Analyst
The process included a screening call, an interview with two team members, and then a final interview with the hiring manager. The hiring manager rescheduled the interview twice, stretching the process out for over two months. They claimed to use STAR interview questions, but the hiring manager, seeing themself as an innovator, intentionally "jumped around" to test me and left little room for STAR answers. A significant portion of the hiring manager's time was spent warning me about the role's difficulty, showing me their database structure, and emphasizing the challenging nature of the position. The database structure was quite standard for a data-intensive company, and the expected learning curve seemed typical.
- Which superhero would you choose to be if you had the chance?
Telephone Claims Representative
First, there was a phone call with HR where they asked general questions about my previous work experience and qualifications. Then, I had an online assessment test using a database system, and it's important to be focused during that. Next, a Zoom interview with two supervisors, mostly behavioral questions like 'tell me a time when you had to deliver bad news'. Finally, an interview on Microsoft Teams with the Hiring Manager, who asked more behavioral questions and some scenarios about car accidents, wanting me to rephrase what he said and explain fault. He said he'd call the week of the interview but didn't, so don't be surprised if you get ghosted by him.
- What's your approach to managing a heavy workload? For example, if you start your day with 2 claims, 5 missed customer calls, and emails from your manager, what's your priority order?
