I applied for the job on LinkedIn and a recruiter contacted me a few days later to schedule a meeting. I had a meeting with the recruiter and they gave me a good introduction to the company and the role. We also talked about my experience and what I was looking for in my next job. After that, I met with the Vice President of Data Science for a more formal interview. We had a good discussion about the role and my experience. Unfortunately, I didn't make it to the next stage, but my overall experience was very positive. It seems like a great company.

This interview process is super lengthy and they would string you along. First a phone screen by the recruiter, then another phone screen by the Hiring manager. Then a Technical Interview with 2 engineers. After that, a TAKE HOME PROJECT (Pure BS). If they like your project, they call you for 3 more video rounds of interview. Then a Meet the whole team round (About 8 people). After that, another Technical round and presentation of your project. Finally, Meet the director and hiring manager. Way too many rounds and it starts to feel like they just want to waste your time and string you along.

Started with a recruiter call which was great, then an Engineering Manager call. Next was a take-home assessment using the CMPedometer Library. They liked my work, but then said they're moving away from using it, which confused me since they tested on it. Thought that wasn't well planned out. After that was a panel interview, which was poorly organized. The design and product teams were really nice. There was one live coding session, but the instructions weren't clear. Another platform developer who wasn't familiar with iOS or Swift gave the live coding instructions, which caused confusion. We also discussed the take-home project. The process wrapped up with a summary with the Engineering Manager.

Confirmed questions4 questions

  • Perform Unit Testing during live coding.
  • Employ Test-Driven Development (TDD).

I only had the first screen, which was a 30-minute phone call. It was pretty easy. Initially, the interviewer seemed engaged, but as we talked, her disinterest became noticeable in her voice, which is a pretty bad experience for someone interviewing. They only asked me 4 questions, and then it was my turn to ask questions. I had a lot I wanted to ask, but she seemed so disinterested that I felt like I was wasting my breath. Even though I love the product and have been using it for years, and working there has been a dream, my interviews with myfitnesspal over the years have consistently been among my worst interview experiences. Unlike other companies where recruiters advocate for you and are friendly and provide feedback, which makes for a great experience even if you don't get the job, every interaction I've had with myfitnesspal has been the opposite. It felt like she was just going through the motions, and the treatment you receive seems to depend on whether you'll advance. What's worse is that they don't provide feedback when asked. I think it's time for me to stop trying to work there because the overall vibe isn't for me, and it might just not be a good fit.
