Product Manager
I applied for the job on LinkedIn and a recruiter contacted me a few days later to schedule a meeting. I had a meeting with the recruiter and they gave me a good introduction to the company and the role. We also talked about my experience and what I was looking for in my next job. After that, I met with the Vice President of Data Science for a more formal interview. We had a good discussion about the role and my experience. Unfortunately, I didn't make it to the next stage, but my overall experience was very positive. It seems like a great company.
- Tell me about your product strategy experience.
- Describe your experience with data product implementation.
- How have you worked with data engineers and data scientists?
Product Manager
It was a mixed bag, the people I talked to were great, but the whole transparency thing was just okay. Started with an HR call, then a 1-hour chat with the hiring manager and a peer. After that, I had a 2-day take-home assignment where I had to solve a real problem they're facing. The last step was a 3-hour panel interview with the team, peers, and the hiring manager. Scheduling was fast and everyone was nice, but they took 3 weeks to decide after the final interview, and I had to follow up. No useful feedback was given, felt like a waste of time. The home project involved a real deliverable to improve a feature, and my suggestions were practical. They kept saying these ideas were already on their roadmap, which felt like a way to say they weren't getting free ideas, but I'm not so sure. Pay seems just alright, I was expecting more, so it probably wouldn't have worked out anyway.
- Can you share your experience in product management?
- Describe a situation where you had to handle conflict.
- Tell me about a time you experienced failure in your work.
Product Manager
First, a recruiter screen. Then, a hiring manager round which was a behavioral interview. Lastly, a panel interview with the engineering manager, director of PM, and hiring manager. Surprise! They threw in a case study on their product during the panel interview.
- What would you change about the MyFitnessPal app?
