Designer
This was a tough interview experience, but I made it through! They asked some hard-hitting questions about the impact of my work on the company and how I got to where I was. My advice? Make sure you can talk through the entire product development process from start to finish before you chat with them. They really want to hear about your journey and the difference you made, not just a summary of tasks.
- Can you elaborate on the steps you took and the reasoning behind them, as well as the results achieved?
- What was the effect of your contributions on the business?
Customer Service Representative
The interview process had four stages. The first three interviews went really well, getting perfect scores, but the last interview was with a c-suite person. I should have realized it would be bad when they were late and acted rude and dismissive during the interview. I knew then I wouldn't get the job. Their unprofessionalism really put me off the company and made me not want to recommend it to others.
- Can you share an instance where you dealt with a challenging customer?
Product Data Analyst
I went through 6 interviews for this role, starting with a recruiter phone screen where we talked about the job and if I'd be a good fit. Then I met with the hiring manager, three other employees, and the director of data analytics. My last interview was a bit different because a different hiring manager reached out to confirm my start date and answer my questions. At MX, they have this thing where they identify the top 5 qualities they want in a data analyst and then ask you a behavioral question to show you have it. They usually have two questions per quality, so don't hesitate to ask for the other one. The technical interview felt more like a quick quiz than a take-home assignment, which I don't think is the best way. They asked me about SQL and Python, and thankfully I had studied up, but the questions were more conceptual than practical. The communication throughout the process was just okay. The recruiter was nice but couldn't really give me any advice on how to prepare because she wasn't sure herself, so I was pretty much in the dark about what to expect for most of the interviews.
- Can you list all the data types available in Python?
- What distinguishes UNION from UNION ALL in SQL?
- Could you explain the function of INTERSECT in SQL?
Procurement Manager
They reached out to me about a new position, and even though I wasn't looking, I was interested after seeing their company values. I had an initial phone screen, and then a chat with the hiring manager. Instead of asking about my availability, they sent a meeting invite without discussing timing first. I had a scheduling conflict and had to reschedule for the next day, which seemed okay at the time but felt like a red flag later. The call with the hiring manager seemed to go well; he seemed like someone I could work with and appreciated my answers. At the end, he said recruiting would be in touch about next steps. I waited a few weeks, thinking maybe things were just slow, but when I checked the hiring portal, my application status was 'not selected.' I didn't even get a rejection email, which I find unprofessional, especially since they initiated contact. I advise caution when considering this company due to a pattern of poor communication and unprofessional behavior.
- Tell me about a challenging situation and how you dealt with it.
- What prompted you to interview with us, given you weren't actively seeking a new role?
