First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Murphy USA.
Store Manager
First, you'll do a quick video screening to see if you're a good fit and can communicate well. Then, HR will chat with you on the phone or online about your work history, when you can work, and if you'll fit in with the company culture. If that goes well, you'll meet the District Manager in person at a store to talk about what the job involves, what's expected of you, and how you'd handle real-life situations. They'll be looking at your leadership skills, if you're reliable, and if you're good with customers. Lastly, the Division Director will give the final go-ahead after reviewing the DM's recommendation and your profile.

Assistant Manager
The interview process was straightforward and efficient. It involved typical questions about your past work experience relevant to the role at Murphy. The interviews are conducted by the store manager.
- In what ways would you contribute positively to Murphy?
Cashier
Applied online in November 2024. Had a phone interview with the hiring manager that had about 6-7 questions. The manager said the second interview would be with their boss. Weeks passed with no word back. Contacted corporate for Murphy USA for a status update. After many calls and online tickets, the local Murphy USA called back to schedule an in-person interview for January 2, 2025, at 2 pm. Arrived 25 minutes early for the interview but had to wait outside until the manager was ready. The same manager from the phone interview greeted me and took me to the side of the gas pumps for the interview. It was confusing to have a second interview with the same person. The manager asked the same questions from the phone interview. Near the end, the manager mentioned not to be upset if not chosen, as they were looking for people who wanted a management role and could run the store in their absence, someone aiming for their position. The interview was alright, but after going home, I realized Murphy USA wasn't the right fit. I emailed to withdraw my application due to the hiring process. If a store has a cashier opening, they should be seeking a cashier, not judging based on management aspirations. I wanted to advance but disliked how applications were rejected based on who was ready for management. I requested my application be withdrawn.

Investor Relations Analyst
I applied online and then had a phone screen with the recruiter. After that, I had a case study/skills review with the Director. The final stage was on-site interviews, which included four 1:1 interviews and a very long case study that lasted over 3.5 hours. During the case study, I was given a packet of paperwork and left alone in a room. It felt like I was doing free work for someone else. Throughout the entire interview day, I often felt left alone as if they were too busy to deal with me. After the interviews, I didn't hear back from the recruiter, so I had to reach out after more than two weeks to get an update. The company seemed uninterested and unenthusiastic about the interview process.
