Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Murphy USA.
District Manager
I applied online and went through a recruiter interview, then another phone interview, followed by a video interview and an in-person interview with 3 divisional managers. The questions were easy and everyone had great personalities. It felt a bit biased because over half the candidates were from one other company and had worked with the interviewers before. I went through the process and answered the questions, but I lost interest in the position because the interactions and dynamics made it clear the positions were already filled by pre-selected candidates.
- Can you describe a situation from your past where you had to... (behavioral question)
District Manager
The recruiter was really good and to the point. They didn't waste any time getting you in and figuring out if you were a good fit for the company. They know what they're looking for and expect you to have similar qualities. It's a very straightforward process of 'tell me about a time when...'.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- Can you tell me about a specific situation?
District Manager
Had an initial phone screen that went well. Then a video interview, also went well. After that, flew out to Arkansas. However, no offer was made. People kept saying they were 'very busy, very busy'. A lot of behavioral questions were asked, like 'Tell me about a time when you went above and beyond?'. No questions were about the actual job or candidate experience. Was told to dress professional and wore a suit, but the interviewers weren't dressed professionally, no suits or ties.
- Tell me about a time you went above and beyond.
