Software Engineer Trainee
In March 2026, I had my placement drive through campus for the Software Engineer Trainee role at Mr.Cooper (acquired by Rocket Mortgage). It started with an online test on Hacker-earth, which was MCQ and coding, proctored via video and lasted for 3 hours. You could answer questions in any order. The test had 29 questions in total, split into three parts: 1. Aptitude & Logical Reasoning (questions 1-10/12): Focused on topics like simple interest, compound interest, boat problems, train problems, profit and loss, and time and work. It was important to know about US currency concepts (pennies, cents, nickles) and also about true discount, banker discount, relative total profit percentage, and assertion/reason. 2. Technical MCQ (questions 13-25): Covered DBMS (Normalization, SQL queries, Keys, Joins were very important), C/Java memory concepts (stack, heap, free(), Garbage Collection), Java File Handling (Reader, writer), code snippet outputs, Constructors, sorting/linkedlist time complexities, and OOPS. 3. DSA & SQL: Had 4 questions - 3 DSA problems (2 medium: Recursion, Regex/String; 1 hard: Binary Search) and 1 SQL problem (subqueries and Joins). You need decent coding knowledge for this part.

So after the summer internship, we had this full-time evaluation thing. It was like a few rounds. First, they threw three little coding problems at us. Then, we had this longer coding challenge where we had to make a console app. After that, there were two tech interviews. The first one was all about basic OOP and DSA stuff. The second tech one was more advanced OOP and DSA, plus questions from my resume. Finally, there was the HR interview, and then I guess that leads to an offer.

But generally, they have several stages to check your technical skills and how you handle yourself. First, for campus jobs, there's usually a test with math, English, logic, and basic computer stuff. Then, there's a technical part that might have multiple-choice questions and coding problems, often about SQL, OOP, and data structures. Sometimes, you'll need to design a system or app, like a fitness tracker, and show diagrams like UML or ER, and explain the architecture. After that, a technical interview goes deeper into your skills, asking about your project approach, coding habits, and how you solve problems. Finally, an HR interview is all about behavioral questions, checking if you'll fit in, how flexible you are, and what your career goals are.

Graduate Engineer Trainee
It was a good process. They looked for skills in long coding, DBMS, OOPs, and resume projects. There were multiple rounds: first round, then a long coding round, then Tech 1, Tech 2, and finally an HR round. The rounds were average. The work culture seems good and the package offered is 10 LPA.
