Behavioral Technical Case

This interview process was more like a hiring journey. Although extensive, I feel it was necessary and I appreciate the GREAT and extensive lengths Miaplaza goes through to weed through those that want a quick hire vs those that are intentional, passionate about the industry and view the job as more of a career path and are seeking QUALITY and longevity in their next role. I applied April 12 and was extended an offer March 16 (my days may be off by a few but all-in-all my hiring journey took about a month from application to offer). It consisted of the initial application, attached resume, answered some preliminary questions like why I want to work for the company, etc. so they could get a proper introduction to get a feel for me, my intent, my professional background, etc. Then I did a preliminary job/skills-based assessment that was timed (1hr I believe). It included writing prompt responses based on potential real-life on-the-job scenarios. I then had my 1st zoom interview with HR and a Team Lead. That included some additional in depth questions a customer service based chat based role play scenario. I then 2nd job/skills based assessment and an aptitude test. I then had my 2nd interview with 2 managers. Shout out to Cassie and Jo!!!! They were INCREDIBLE and a pleasure to speak with! It was a joy to hear about their individual journeys with Miaplaza and to speak to them about my professional goals further and what I’d happily bring to the role and to the company. Lastly, I had to undergo a professional reference check—and yes, THEY CHECK. Thoroughly. AS. THEY. SHOULD. They want to invest in you and want to make sure they are sound on their investment when you come onboard. They aren’t just looking for average or for someone just looking to past the time until the next big thing comes along. They want to extend offers to those that are passionate, compassionate, and match the company culture. This was by far the most extensive hiring journey I’ve experienced, yet the MOST impactful. I feel confident going into this role and with the preliminary professional relationships I’ve already began to foster in the process! I was sitting on 2 other job offers from other companies while waiting to see if Miaplaza would extend me an offer, as this role, this company and this industry of work is my preference. I was elated to align with Miaplaza and to accept an offer over the 2 other offers I was extended (even though one of the offers paid more). It’s CERTAINLY quality over quantity for me and I was willing to compromise a few dollars for what seems to be a better work-life balance, a more versatile day-to-day in my daily job duties and a company culture that ultimately seems unmatched. If you’re patient, passionate, and looking for a “forever home” in your next position with clear career pathways to potentially advance, this is going to be the cream of the crop!

I applied for a PM role and got a virtual assessment with written and video questions. I almost skipped it because those can take forever, but I looked anyway. The first part had really hard questions for how much time they gave. Some needed more info to answer, but there was no time to structure a good response. You don't need super complex questions to see how someone thinks; simpler ones work just as well. The video part also seemed like a waste at this stage. That can be done in a live interview. Asking people to spend an hour on an assessment before talking to them, and then maybe rejecting them, isn't a serious or respectful hiring process. If they won't spend time on a real chat, why should I spend so much unpaid time upfront?

Behavioral Technical

The interview process had five steps if you were successful: resume review, a pedagogical assessment, a 1:1 HR interview, a sample assignment, and then a Zoom interview. I got to the fourth step before they rejected me. A lot of people had trouble with the pedagogical assessment, but I thought mine was fair and a good test of knowledge and skills, not unreasonable to do before the first interview. The interview itself was positive and lasted about 30 minutes. They didn't volunteer much about the job, but they did answer my questions pretty well. I also don't mind doing a work sample, but I'm not sure they don't use failed candidates' assignments for curriculum, which is a red flag for me. They got back to me pretty quickly after I submitted my work, so that was good. Looking back, the whole experience, including their messages, felt a bit too positive, almost fake sometimes. Because of this, I wouldn't recommend this company.

Technical Coding System Design Case Presentation

Applied online, sorta reluctantly because the salary was way low for the job. Got an online assessment the next day, 60 mins, 50 questions covering HR stuff, math, logic, spatial, English, and detail. The automated message laid out the steps: 1. aptitude test, 2. HR interview, 3. assignment, 4. more interviews with HM, key people, and execs. Got rejected the next day via automated email. Never even talked to a real person, just like some others said. Felt like applying to college again.

  • In your role as HR Director, how would you advise managers on deciding between a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) and immediate termination for an employee, based on their conduct and history? What criteria or framework would you use for this decision?
  • Your team is adjusting labor costs company-wide. The Comp & Ben Manager needs help guiding managers on how to talk to employees in high cost-of-living areas who aren't seeing much pay increase from this adjustment. Provide brief talking points for managers to explain to these employees why their salary hasn't changed much or at all.
  • The company is struggling with its hiring pipeline for SWE roles, and the Hiring Manager is worried about the quality of candidates reaching the final interviews. Given the SWE hiring pipeline data, what are the top 3 areas you'd focus on improving or changing, and why? Propose specific changes for each area with a brief rationale.
