& Process

The interview process involved two rounds of conversational interviews. They didn't ask any deep technical questions, but instead focused on evaluating my fit for the role. The team at Meso Scale did an excellent job explaining the job, its challenges, and the opportunities available. I really enjoyed the interview process because of their transparency and getting to learn more about the company.

We started with a 30-minute initial screening with the manager and director where they asked some basic questions about fundamental knowledge, like what an analyte or a standard is. After that, there was a 2.5-hour panel interview with the process team. The last part of that was back with the director and manager, which was tough since they had the hardest questions. I wish we could have gotten that part over with earlier. We also had to review statistics.

First round was with the hiring manager, included a coding problem. Second round was 45 minutes each with 4 people (engineers and directors), then a 45-minute chat with a VP. Most of them were new hires and the content was disorganized. Each technical interviewer had their own questions and coding problems, with a lot of repeated knowledge questions. Some coding exercises were tricky timewise if you didn't have them memorized. A few interviewers gave unhelpful feedback during the coding part.

I went through 4 rounds of interviews over the course of a month. I was excited about the position because I think MSD’s technology is fascinating, so I was constantly refreshing my email waiting for a “next steps” email. I was pretty appalled to say the least when I received my rejection through a Linkedln DM. I found this to be extremely unprofessional. If this is considered acceptable at the company, I likely dodged a bullet. I ended up sending an email to the hiring person and got a response a few days later. Appreciated the response, but the initial let down through a DM was disappointing
