Got contacted by a coordinator to set up an interview, which was cool. But weirdly, there wasn't a pre-screening call to go over the job details. It was straight to the hiring manager, maybe because I was referred? Anyway, they wanted to schedule ASAP, like within 3 days, and in person. Problem was, I was on vacation! I asked if we could push it to 5 days, the day I get back, but the coordinator said no. So, it ended up being scheduled via Teams. I ditched my vacation plans and got ready. I figured it was worth it for a chance with what seemed like a great company. I logged in early, but waited 10 minutes, and nobody showed up. The hiring manager eventually joined, totally confused why I was on Teams. I explained that I could have met in person, but the coordinator wasn't having it. Then, we spent another 5 minutes messing around while the hiring manager got Copilot set up for their 'notes' (wonder if they use that in person too?). The interview finally kicked off, 20 minutes late. It was a barrage of generic questions, no real conversation, which felt odd for a role with 100 direct reports. About halfway through, they said we needed to hurry because they had a huge list of questions. Yeah, a lot of time was wasted already, and we hadn't even talked about the actual role. No real chance for me to ask questions either. Super strange for an executive-level position. And after all that? Total ghosting. No response even after follow-ups and offering to meet in person for a proper chat. Not even a rejection email. Seriously, send your IT leaders to interview training. It felt like the hiring manager had zero experience interviewing anyone beyond entry-level.

Had a few interviews: with the direct manager, their manager, and HR. Also had a third-party phone interview with some open-ended questions. Then there were about 3 or 4 online tests covering things like personality and leadership style. The whole thing took about 6 weeks from start to finish.

So, I first learned about the job opening through a career fair, and then I applied online. After that, there was a talent assessment. The first actual screening was a HR behavioral interview. Then, I went to Mercy hospital for a super day type of experience, which involved three 1-on-1 interviews with hospital leaders. The final round was conducted virtually from home.

I talked to an HR person first, and they asked pretty standard questions about my values and how I've acted in different situations before. Then, I was asked what it means to me to use healthcare as a ministry, which I found a bit off since I'm not religious. After that, I got a tour of some units and chatted with a couple of nurse managers. I got an offer a few days later. They mentioned the base wage was $15/hour, and it went up to $15.82 if you had 5 years of experience.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • How do you interpret healthcare as a ministry?
