Program Manager
The internal recruiter, Rachel, did a quick screening call, then set up a zoom interview with the hiring manager. After that, I had two more zoom interviews with different directors, and then an in-person visit to the site with the hiring manager. Finally, I got an offer. Rachel was super responsive via text and kept me updated, making it a pretty smooth process and a good transition after the offer.
- How would you manage conflicting priorities and tasks?
Test Engineer
HR reached out directly about the role. The first step was a phone interview, followed by an in-person meeting in a conference room. The initial part involved HR discussing my background. Then, I met with the hiring manager who asked some questions that needed deep knowledge about their chips, which they knew I wouldn't have as a recent grad. He also mentioned long hours are expected, with vague promises of improvement in 9 months. I got a text the next day saying I wasn't moving forward.
- Would you be okay working long and irregular hours for at least 6 months?
Director
The interview process was really quick and smooth. First, I had a 30-40 minute phone screen with the hiring manager. Then, I was invited for an on-campus visit where I had four interviews back-to-back with different team members. I felt really good about all these conversations and was quite confident. In fact, I even let a competitor know I was in the final stages with Mercury. After about a week with no word from the recruiter, I followed up and was asked to wait another 8-10 business days because other interviews were still happening. On the 10th day, I was told the role had changed significantly from the original description. While I understand things change, based on my chats, it seems like leadership isn't really listening to what the team needs. It was a good learning experience about how decisions are influenced.

Software Engineer
So, Thomas Buckley reached out first. After some emails, we did a phone call which went well. A week or two later, I got contacted by a different person, which is not uncommon. I had my interview with one of the software engineers where they asked me some questions. About a week after that, the second recruiter called to see how the interview went. I said I thought it went well. They pressed me on it, asking if I was sure and if it went well. I said yeah. Then they told me I didn't do well and that while my answers were correct, they weren't what the interviewer expected. The recruiter then started talking about another candidate whose answers were apparently much better and made a huge impact on the interviewer, the best she'd heard in 10 years. I thought that was pretty unprofessional. They kept talking, and I was trying to end the call. Eventually, they asked if I had something on my mind. I said that since I didn't get the job, I was going to get off the phone. They said they'd keep in touch for future roles. Basically, the interview itself was easy, but the recruiters and interviewer were terrible. It seems like opinions matter more than facts here.
- Can you state the three main components of a for loop?
- What is a static variable?
