The Mercor AI interview process was pretty simple and mostly focused on my last job, especially my event experience, how I led teams, and trained them. The AI asked me about leading teams, handling responsibilities, and dealing with situations in my previous position. The interview was 16 minutes long, so it's good to know your resume well and be able to talk clearly about your recent experience. Preparing ahead of time really makes things go smoother. I did notice the AI sometimes repeated questions without explaining why, and it didn't always prompt me to say more, which made the flow feel a bit off. I think it could be better if the system guided candidates more when more details are needed. Overall, it was easy and manageable as long as you prepare and are comfortable talking about your experience, leadership style, and how you train or support teams. I'm waiting to hear back, and the wait can be up to 4 weeks.

This involved a case study, which took a lot of time. After it was done, I got a rejection saying it was about 'team dynamics' but they didn't explain anything. I asked for feedback, but they said company policy stops them from giving it. Case studies aren't supposed to have one right answer; they're for seeing how you think. Not talking about a subjective evaluation is not being professional, it shows they aren't accountable. It's even worse because before the interview, the recruiter said I'd be sharing my screen to show my data and how I prepared. I planned my whole analysis around this. But on the call, the interviewer didn't ask to see my screen and seemed bored, not asking follow-up questions or showing interest. I didn't get to present my work. So, I was judged without the interviewer seeing my work, which is the opposite of what I was told. Then I was rejected with no feedback or accountability. Basically, Mercor wastes your time, misleads you about the interview format, gives you a disengaged interviewer, and then uses 'policy' as an excuse when you ask for reasons. If you value your time, seriously consider if you want to go through their process.

Applied on website. Round 1 was an AI interview where they asked about me, asked me to design a URL shortener, and then how I would handle deletions in it. Round 2 was a take-home assignment. Round 3 was a group interview where we were all in there at once, and we were told to optimize code for throughput. At the end, they asked how the interview process was, and everyone praised it, but I complained that it wasn't nice. Round 4 involved an object structure in S3 that needed to be ingested into a database, and we had to optimize search calculations. Questions involved cost of RAM vs querying, distributed search with Turbopuffer, sharding databases and its limitations for search, handling S3 retrieval issues like network or worker crashes, and retrieving data from continents like Asia when sharding by country. Verdict: Haven't responded, take it as rejected.

So I had this AI Interviewer thing. The first time they wanted to interview me was in November for a Senior Management position, but I said no because it caught me off guard and I'd just had surgery. I was kind of flippant about it, saying I wouldn't interview with a machine. But this time, mid-January, I was ready. The AI was way friendlier, polite, a good listener, even empathetic. It felt like a conversation. They asked me to talk about my resume and my core competency in government contracting terms. Then, I got a whiteboard for a business case scenario, had 5 minutes to look it over, and then they asked questions. It gave good feedback and compliments after each answer. MERCOR's AI is awesome, I'd do it again. I only docked it a point because it could have given directions a bit faster, and I accidentally interrupted it once, but I apologized.
