First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Matillion.
Quality Engineer
The interview process was swift, well organised, and I received clear follow-up feedback after each stage. It was a three-stage interview process, and I genuinely enjoyed the experience. The recruiter was friendly, and the hiring manager was cheerful and explained the questions clearly, which made it easy to understand what was being asked. The technical interview was also interesting — I was able to understand the problem in depth and discuss possible solutions with the technical team. Overall, I’m excited to join, as the role fits comfortably with my tech stack and experience.

Sales Development Representative
I went through 6 rounds of interviews, and then got ghosted. The interviews included some repeated basic questions, a take-home assignment, a 1-hour in-person meeting, and a mock sales run-through. Throughout the process, it seemed like each interviewer didn't know about the hiring pipeline or where I was in it, showing a lack of internal communication. I was also told directly there was no chance for career advancement, making it feel like they just needed to fill a spot rather than grow someone. The office vibe was also very male-dominated, which might not be for everyone.

Senior Site Reliability Engineer
I was offered a position and was impressed with how comfortable I felt throughout Matillion's interview process, a great vibe from every interview and I felt treated respectfully and fairly. The interviews were challenging, probing my personality, professionalism, suitability for the role, and especially my tech knowledge. They were conducted in the STAR format over Zoom, lasting 45 minutes to an hour, mostly with 2 interviewers. I noted some high standards from Matillion's interviewers. The interviews were structured yet informal with a relaxed dress code. I received good notice before each interview via email and was fully informed of the context. After each interview, a member of the hiring team provided constructive feedback. While I didn't need to reschedule, it seemed flexible if I had to. My main point of contact was brilliant, and I felt an instant rapport. I had prepared extensively, including a 5-minute demo of an AWS infrastructure diagram which I presented. I also asked direct questions about diversity, inclusivity, and support for the LGBTQi+ community, and was pleasantly surprised by their comprehensive answers and positive run down of their active support of women in tech. I'd rate Matillion's interviews 9/10, with a small deduction for a name error on the contract which was quickly fixed. Matillion's post-interview process included slick onboarding with automated systems for contracts, equipment, background checks, and references, with well-presented, easy-to-understand PDFs about 'What happens next'.

Software Engineer
It was a great interview process overall. I applied via LinkedIn with my CV and had an initial call with a recruiter. Then, I had a second call with an engineering manager. After that, I completed a take-home coding test where I had to review some code. The final stage involved a call with the same recruiter to discuss culture and values, and also with some senior/lead engineers for more technical questions. They seemed really focused on whether I'd be a good culture fit and if my values aligned, alongside the usual technical questions. All the interview stages felt more like a conversation about the company and the role rather than just being asked questions.
- Can you tell me about your experience with Java and cloud computing, specifically AWS?
- What are your thoughts on the following pull request and how would you review this code?
- We'd like to ask you some behavioral questions to understand your cultural alignment.
