First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Matillion.
Solution Architect
I applied online and was invited for a zoom Interview. It was a 75 min call in total, 60min with the Head of Solution Architect and a Current Placement Student who were relaxed and made me relax. Then they gave me time for my questions. After that, I had a 15min chat with Peoples OPS about next steps. 1-4 days later, I was sent a technical test on HackerRank to complete within a set number of days. After submitting the test, about a week later, I was called and offered the placement. The whole process was very smooth, thorough, relaxed, and not rushed. The interviewing team was collected, patient, and competent, making me feel at ease.
- Can you explain why you are interested in a Solution Architect role?
- Could you tell me about the Matillion Values?
- What are your goals and motivations?
Solutions Architect
I was initially contacted by Jefferson Frank about my job preferences. I emphasized wanting a company with a positive atmosphere, friendly culture, and strong core values. Although I had applied for an Automation Engineer role and reached the second stage, this was paused due to my wife going into labor. I then requested to be considered for the Solutions Architect position instead. The interview process involved three stages: a one-hour video call with the Head of Solution Architecture, an in-person meeting with both the Head of Solution Architecture and the Head of Engineering, and a final interview with the People Ops manager. All interactions were relaxed and friendly, with a strong emphasis on my interest in Matillion and my suitability for the company and role. They were keen to understand my motivations for the role and made me feel quite at ease, despite my nervousness. While I had advanced to the second interview stage with three other companies, my experience in the first interview at Matillion made me solely focused on securing a position there. Overall, it was a very positive interview experience.
- Could you illustrate an architecture diagram for a software solution you've previously supported?
Solution Architect
Started with the recruiter, then spoke with the hiring manager, and finished with a presentation to a senior team member. This interview isn't about tricking you, but really getting a sense of what you want and what you're good at because it's client-facing and not everyone likes working with people. I liked the presentation part because you can't fake that experience; it's clear if you haven't done it before, especially when the candidate shows off the Matillion software.
- What is your understanding of Matillion?
- Describe a hypothetical scenario involving your work with clients, customers, or stakeholders.
- Can you answer some Linux questions, assuming the role is for a DevOps SA?
