First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Marriott Vacations Worldwide.
Marketing Intern
The interview started with a Zoom phone screen, lasting about 30 minutes, covering basic personal and motivational questions. If successful, the next step was an in-person interview at their office, where I met two friendly people in a conference room. They revisited some earlier questions and added some fun ones related to travel.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- What motivates your interest in this position and our company?
- Share an instance where you navigated a conflict in a work setting.
Staff Accountant
Worst interview process I have ever experienced. HR seems to operate on their own time and complicate the hiring process for no reason. The first interview was scheduled with an HR associate as well as another HR associate marked as optional. Upon joining the interview over teams, nobody showed up. I waited for over 45 mins, just to finally get a message on teams that she “forgot” about the interview. The interview was then scheduled to the following week. The rescheduled interview went well, and I received a follow up interview with the decision makers. After receiving an offer, I got in touch with the initial HR associate. After discussing pay with HR, I expressed that I would like time to think about the offer and to her response, she acted surprised and asked why I needed time to think about a 3% raise. The lack of grace made me feel disrespected rushed to make a decision. I applied to this job 3 months before hearing back. Eventually, I accepted the offer but the hiring process should have been a red flag for me to begin with. It was truly an unforgettable experience. However, I was pleased to find out that this company has outsourced the majority of their HR department and I can finally sleep well at night.
- Can you share an example of a time you went above and beyond what was expected?
Fitness Specialist
First, I had a phone call with HR that was about 20-30 mins long where they asked basic screening questions about my qualifications. Then, about a week later, I had an in-person interview with the hiring manager and supervisor. They asked a lot of standard questions, and some were repetitive, asking for many examples of past accomplishments, challenges, and situations. It was a good process overall, just a little tedious and long for this kind of job.
- Can you tell me about a time you faced difficulties with a client and how you managed to resolve it?
Customer Care Sales Receptionist
You submit an application online and then an in-house recruiter gets in touch to arrange a meeting with a manager and the Director of Marketing. (This isn't the interview part yet.) Following that, the recruiter schedules an in-person or Zoom interview with managers from the department you're applying to. This interview starts with general questions like introducing yourself, discussing your background, any relevant past experiences, and SMART behavioral questions about resolving conflicts or problems.
- What makes you want to work for Marriott?
- Describe a stressful situation and how you dealt with it.
