First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Marriott Vacations Worldwide.
Staff Accountant
Worst interview process I have ever experienced. HR seems to operate on their own time and complicate the hiring process for no reason. The first interview was scheduled with an HR associate as well as another HR associate marked as optional. Upon joining the interview over teams, nobody showed up. I waited for over 45 mins, just to finally get a message on teams that she “forgot” about the interview. The interview was then scheduled to the following week. The rescheduled interview went well, and I received a follow up interview with the decision makers. After receiving an offer, I got in touch with the initial HR associate. After discussing pay with HR, I expressed that I would like time to think about the offer and to her response, she acted surprised and asked why I needed time to think about a 3% raise. The lack of grace made me feel disrespected rushed to make a decision. I applied to this job 3 months before hearing back. Eventually, I accepted the offer but the hiring process should have been a red flag for me to begin with. It was truly an unforgettable experience. However, I was pleased to find out that this company has outsourced the majority of their HR department and I can finally sleep well at night.
- Can you share an example of a time you went above and beyond what was expected?
Staff Accountant
They start with a phone interview, and then the second interview was in person with two people. It was interesting because they let me ask a couple of questions.
- What are your long-term plans?
Tax Accountant
So, first thing that happens is an HR recruiter calls you to schedule a phone interview. Then you have that phone interview with the same recruiter. They'll ask you some of the questions you'd get in the real interview. If they like you, the recruiter will email you to set up a face-to-face interview with the hiring manager. Usually with Marriott, at least in my experience, they do a panel interview with 2 or more managers. Marriott uses the STAR interview format.
- Describe a specific instance of a challenging situation you encountered with a coworker and how you managed it.
