The interview process wasn't the best, but it was okay. It included a Manager Round with general questions like 'tell me about yourself', 'why this company/role', 'strengths/weaknesses', 'challenging situation', and 'future goals'. Then there were Technical Questions covering Java concepts like abstract classes vs interfaces, synchronization, pointers vs references, functional programming, SDLC, runtime polymorphism, and garbage collection (including generational GC). There were also questions about Python generators. Finally, there was a coding challenge: finding the max element in an array in O(1) time, which I initially struggled with, but the solution involved using multithreading for parallel processing.

Standard screening interview. The HR person didn't seem very interested in learning more about my background or particularly motivated. It's a bit concerning that the position has been open for nearly six months, making me wonder if it's even a genuine opening. A significant portion of the interview was dedicated to discussing benefits. For some reason, the interviewer seemed to assume I might question whether they work on more than just idle games, which is probably a common question they get, but it felt like an imposed assumption.

Everything was going well, and even in the final interview, they told me I did a good job. I specifically asked them for feedback during that interview, and they assured me I was doing well. They said if I hadn’t been doing well, I wouldn’t have made it this far. However, a week later, I received a rejection email. When I asked for more details, they said I didn’t have a strong skill set and experience. This was really shocking to me. After spending a month, I felt I deserved more reasonable feedback.

Started with a recruiter call, then an art test that was given a week but only took 2-3 days to complete. After submitting the art test, I received a call about the results with the head of art and the product manager. This was followed by two trial days, which were the most challenging but also very fun and educational. Each day involved a different, challenging task that required balancing completion time with multiple meetings. At the end of each day, there was a brief call to present my work and receive feedback from the head of art. There was also a lunch meeting call to get to know two colleagues better in a casual chat. Because of COVID, the entire process was online, including the trial days. A few days after the trial days, the head of art called to offer me the position and present the contract. The entire hiring process was fast and straightforward. I'm very grateful for the help and suggestions from the head of art during the trial days, as he was very kind and responsive. I'm looking forward to starting at Kolibri. The HR representative who interviewed me and guided me was very warm, friendly, responsible, and patient.
