First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at JD Power.
QA Intern
The interview process involved basic questions about testing and the software development lifecycle (SDLC). They asked about why I'm interested in QA, what OOP is, HTTP methods, and the difference between QA and QC. There were also some easy behavioral questions. No coding or LeetCode questions were asked. If you don't have testing experience, they suggested watching YouTube for the basics.
- In your opinion, why pursue a career in Quality Assurance?
- Could you explain the concept of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP)?
- What are the different HTTP methods?
Product Manager
So I had this initial HR chat, then I interviewed with the Head of Product. For that one, I had to do an assessment over the weekend and send it before the interview. After that, I talked with two product managers, one of them was senior. Then I had a session with the Head of Engineering and two other engineers. If they liked me, the next step was a final interview with the VP and then an offer. After those first 4 rounds, HR was supposed to let me know the status by Monday. I didn't hear anything, so I followed up on Friday. HR apologized and said the Head of Product had a family emergency and would get back soon. Still no response, so 10 days later I emailed HR again. Three days after that, I got the rejection message.
- Tell me about how you would approach solving problems and managing expectations for customers, sales, and other stakeholders.
- How do you manage expectations for customers, sales, and other stakeholders when approaching problem-solving?
System Analyst
The interview process was very straightforward. It started with questions about my background, what I would contribute to the team, and what qualifications I have. The interviewer was very nice and cordial. It lasted maybe 30 minutes. However, afterwards was very disappointing. My interview in particular went very well and I was told they would be reaching out to me with the next steps. After that I was ghosted, I even tried emailing my interviewer asking about my application status and never received a response. I found it very unprofessional, especially for a highly regarded company. Even a simple "you were not selected" is better than nothing. Very disappointing.
- What is one thing you look for in a company?
Operations Associate
The whole thing took about 3 weeks. I had 3 interviews initially and they all went fine, and I heard back pretty quickly to move on. I followed up after 8 days since I hadn't heard anything and they said there were 'positive' talks about my application and I'd hear back if anything changed. After another 12 days and another follow-up, I was told they weren't considering my application anymore. It feels pretty silly that I wasted time waiting around when I could've been applying to places that were actually hiring instead of just 'looking' for 3 weeks with no real plan to hire soon. It's a really long process, with 4 interviews before an offer. The people I talked to were great, but the end result wasn't what I expected, especially since they seemed to like my contributions and how we talked. I emailed the recruiter for feedback about my application and interview to help for next time, but still no response. It's really disappointing that this company has such slow and poor email communication from their HR team during recruitment.
- What would your current coworkers say about you and how you approach your work?
