It was a really long and hard interview process. The questionnaire alone took hours. First, there was a test focused on critical thinking. Then, I had to describe how I would handle different scenarios and justify my choices.

The interview process started with a virtual interview that included psychometric testing and video recording. This was followed by an Assessment Centre day which involved a role play activity, a business presentation, a group interview, and a panel interview. I received the outcome within two weeks.

It was pretty standard, like all the other MT programmes in Hong Kong. The simulation part was difficult as there was no correct answers per se but your answers revealed your qualities. Then there was a panel interview and an assessment centre.

I applied for the Jardine Executive Trainee Scheme (JETS) back in August 2021. My interview process involved a virtual assessment centre conducted from home via Zoom in November 2021. It started with an Online Immersive Assessment (Cappfinity), then a Job Simulation Assessment (Cappfinity), and finally, the Assessment Centre itself. The Online Immersive Assessment was untimed and covered behavioural questions and inductive reasoning, which is basically pattern recognition with shapes. It asks you to prioritize actions based on given scenarios, emphasizing taking initiative. Crucially, this assessment generates a feedback report that you absolutely need to download and review, as it's discussed in the assessment centre. Next, the Job Simulation Assessment had untimed questions, except for video parts. Similar to the first, it involved ranking preferences based on business scenarios and doing some calculations. It included multiple-choice, fill-in-the-blanks, and essay questions. One video question required presenting analytical insights, while others were basic behavioural ones. The final stage was a full-day Assessment Centre. This involved a Group HR interview, a report writing exercise, group debates, micro-exercises (like interpreting emails, charts, and data), and role-playing scenarios focused on public relations crises, negotiations, and operations. The managers threw curveballs during role-plays, so preparing by reviewing the Immersive Assessment feedback report, researching the company website, and going over your resume is key. Just relax and use every chance to showcase your skills, but avoid dominating, isolating yourself, or interrupting others. The report writing exercise, a big challenge for me, gave less than 60 minutes to read 10+ pages, do calculations, and write a report answering specific prompts. If you're a slow reader or not great at math, this is very time-pressured. The Group HR interviewers were friendly, but their smiles didn't guarantee an offer.

Confirmed questions3 questions
  • Do you concur with the feedback from the Online Immersive Assessment, and what steps will you take to address the highlighted weaknesses?
  • Could you elaborate on your understanding of Jardines and the JETS programme?
  • Imagine you're presented with contract terms and need to confirm them with a contractor, who is actually an observer, a senior manager, aiming to make you renegotiate contract details. (role play)
