First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at IMF.
Admin Coordinator
Applied in early August, took a computer-based competency test in October, and had the first interview in November. After passing that screening, I was placed in a talent pipeline for Admin Coordinator roles. Hiring teams reach out to people in this pipeline for final interviews when they have an open position. The pipeline lasts for six months, and I'm not sure when positions will become available.
- Describe how you manage your time and tasks when faced with tight deadlines and multiple responsibilities.
Economist
Had a preliminary interview with 5 questions on HireVue. Two were behavioral and three were economics-focused. One economics question was pretty tough, dealing with fiscal stabilization. The others were manageable (about the effects of low/high inflation). There was also a question about my job market paper.
- Reasons to think the IMF is a good fit.
- Describe a moment to work as a team.
- Discuss your job market paper and its connections with the IMF.
Video Editor
The interview process had two stages. First, there was a quick phone screen with the hiring agency, TeamPeople. Then, I had a 30-minute video call with four people from the IMF and two from TeamPeople. They all asked me questions about my experience, skills, and how I'd handle different situations. I got the last five minutes to ask my questions, which is pretty standard. What was weird though, was after the interview. I followed up with everyone, but never heard back about my application status. I have almost ten years of experience, so I know not every job works out, and I'm used to getting rejections. But this silence was a first and felt really unprofessional. Because of this, I'm not sure I'd consider working with TeamPeople or the IMF again and wouldn't recommend them.
- How do you keep up with industry trends, especially AI applications?
Human Resources Officer
Got an interview invite with time slots for the next two days. Didn't hear back before the first interview slot, so I followed up and got an OOTO response, but the recruiter did reply and set up a call for the second slot. The interviewer was a no-show but messaged an hour later to reschedule because of network issues. They proposed the same time the next day, which I agreed to, but they didn't confirm my acceptance or provide details for a new link. They no-showed the second interview too and didn't reply to my question about the interview setup. What a mess, really disappointing since I was super keen on this role.
