Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at IMF.
Research Assistant
It was pretty simple, mostly technical questions and no behavioral ones at all. You might hear from different departments with their own questions related to their needs, like tax department questions about taxation. My boss didn't even need to ask questions after looking at my resume.
- When prices go up, how can we tell if it's due to demand or supply changes?
Research Assistant
The hiring process is pretty straightforward and consists of three main parts. First, they do a review of your resume and cover letter; for just one position, they get hundreds of applicants, so it's super competitive. Second, if you make the shortlist, you'll take a technical test to see what you know and your technical skills. Third, there's a final panel interview where they really dig into your communication skills, general knowledge, technical knowledge, and past experience. They want to see how you present yourself, how articulate and knowledgeable you are.
- What is your intended length of employment with our organization?
Research Assistant
The whole process was kinda "dark" since the jobs aren't listed anywhere. I got the interview through a friend who knew someone in the department, even though I didn't meet the listed requirements. Just typical DC job hunting, you know?
- Can you answer some technical interview questions?
