First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Hong Leong Bank.
Compliance Officer
I applied for a compliance role through a referral and had initial interviews with the process heads. After two weeks with no updates, the HR contacted me for an interview with the HOD. I completed this interview and submitted a personality test on the same day. The interview went well, covering topics within my expertise, and I felt a good rapport with the HOD. Three weeks passed with no further communication. My attempts to reach HR via phone were ignored, and they eventually responded to WhatsApp, stating they had no update and I should continue waiting. This is over a month since I applied internally, and I had turned down other opportunities for this role because I really wanted it. The HR's unprofessionalism in ghosting me or providing vague responses is surprising, as is the slow and indecisive hiring process, which reflects poorly on the bank's internal operations.

The first 2 steps were efficient, but then they left me unnoticed for 3 months after I got an email saying I was shortlisted and all my documents were uploaded. What a joke! First, they scheduled me for a face-to-face interview and cancelled it on the SAME day. The HR delayed the assessment that should have been given 30 minutes earlier, which left me with only 19 minutes to finish it. The results were positive and I received an email saying I was shortlisted in just one working day. And the rest is history... no feedback, no follow-up, and it's been 3 months. PLEASE IMPROVE!

Corporate Banking Graduate Trainee
First, there's a phone interview where they'll ask about my background, experience, and interest in the job. It's my chance to talk about my skills and see if the role fits my goals. I can also ask about company culture and what they expect. If that goes well, I get invited for a physical interview. This has a few parts: a writing assessment to check how clearly I communicate, a group interview where they watch how I work with others and solve problems, and then a presentation of my writing assessment where I explain my work and answer questions. After all that, if it goes well, I get an offer letter with salary, benefits, and job details.

Intern
The interview setting was professional, making it a bit tense. But the panel was understanding and supportive, which helped a lot. They seemed to get how stressful interviews can be and tried to make it easier. One person explained the job in a lot more detail, covering specific tasks, daily work, and how it all connects to the company's goals. They also cleared up any confusion I had about the role. This detailed explanation made the job requirements clearer and showed they wanted to make sure I knew what I was getting into. Overall, the panel's professionalism, combined with their supportive and informative style, made the conversation about the job opportunity more comfortable and productive.
