The interview process mainly involved sitting in a Diamond Room and discussing my resume with the hiring managers. The environment felt relaxed and welcoming. The interview was brief, and I received a job offer within a few days.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

The interview process was extremely lengthy, disorganized, and prolonged, with poor communication and follow-through. There were about 7-10 interviews in total, initially via Teams and then in person on site. Based on my conversations with VPs and other senior staff, I got the impression they lacked a clear direction in this highly technical analytics/data science field. The company culture seemed very political and old-fashioned, which was reflected in the interview process. Through some probing, I gathered that their infrastructure and processes are very outdated, and the people involved in the process confirmed this during some consultative discussions with them. The office layout was open plan with people very close together, and the lighting was extremely bright, which could negatively impact computer-intensive workers due to eye strain, and the pit-style workspace would be challenging. Overall, based on my personal experiences and opinions, I would not recommend this company.

The entire hiring process spanned over a month from the initial application submission. There were three interviews in total. The process has recently been updated to be more efficient and faster, with fewer interviews and less bureaucracy before an offer is extended. Furthermore, a significant portion of the new process is now conducted online without direct interaction. By the time a face-to-face interview is scheduled, the hiring manager has generally already decided on the candidate. It's advisable to consider willingness to relocate, as you might be asked to accept a position in a different location for career progression or due to business requirements, which could be a better fit.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

I applied for a store manager job and heard back from a hiring manager about a week later. She asked me about my sales and jewelry experience, even though my resume clearly stated I had been a jewelry store manager before. The next interview was with a higher-up manager who was really arrogant and condescending. By then, I wasn't interested in working for Helzberg Diamonds anymore. Then, they told me the interview was actually for a sales associate position, not the store manager one I applied for. They said they like to start people at the bottom and have them work their way up. This bait and switch just confirmed my doubts about the company.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • Would you be open to starting as a sales associate and then working your way up in the company?
