My experience was really disappointing. I had to do an interview on an AI platform called HireVue, where I recorded my answers to some questions. I had a 2-minute time limit for each question. No one from the company talked to me at this stage. It felt impersonal and like I was talking into a void. It's hard to show what I can do or ask questions when it's just me talking to a platform. For a company this size, I thought they would have a better way to hire people. The whole process felt like a transaction, not like they cared about the candidates.

I was contacted for an initial phone screen, then I had a zoom with the hiring manager. After that, the in-house recruiter took over and was pretty informal, texting or calling for impromptu chats. The next step was a panel interview. I was told I was the top candidate and would hear back in a week, but after two weeks, I followed up. The recruiter said they had more interviews but I was still the top choice. A month later, after I followed up twice more with no response, I contacted the hiring manager directly. A few hours later, the recruiter called to say she'd been trying to reach me and the position was offered to someone else. This went on for 3 months, and I never received any communication from them. They hired someone else in December '23, but strung me along until February '24.

I sent in my application in November 2023. It took a while, but I heard back at the end of January 2024 for an interview. The first step was a HireVue where I had to record my answers to some questions. I got about 30 seconds to a minute to prep and then recorded my response, with two tries allowed per question. About a week after finishing the HireVue, I had a screening call with the recruiter. After that, there were three more interviews: one with the hiring manager, one with the Senior eCommerce Analyst, and the last one with the VP of eCommerce. The whole thing was pretty straightforward, but it was definitely slow getting updates between each stage.

So Helen of Troy's interview process was a bit different, it was this one-way interview thing where you record yourself answering questions they already set up. I personally didn't like it because it felt like there was no real connection or back-and-forth, you know? I get they might be trying to be efficient, but it just felt like they weren't really trying to get to know us as people. It seemed like they cared more about making it easy for themselves than actually talking to us. A good interview, in my opinion, is when you can actually chat, ask questions, and see if you'd even vibe with the company. This one-way thing just didn't allow for that at all. Given how important picking the right job is, I wouldn't really suggest this way of interviewing. A more real conversation would be better for everyone involved.
