First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Hannover Re.
Intern
First, the company and the role were introduced. Then, some questions about my personal background and my motivation for working at Hannover Re were asked. After that, some technical questions about reinsurance were posed, and finally, I was given the opportunity to ask questions.
- What's your motivation for the internship, and is a future career with the company something you envision?
- Are you primarily seeking resume enhancement, or is a potential career path at the company after the internship a possibility?
Payroll and Benefits Manager
The interview experience was pretty good. I had three rounds of interviews, the last one being on February 20, 2024, with the Head of HR. But up to now, March 14th, I haven't heard anything from the recruiting agency, Pursuit Search Group, about my application status. It looks like Hannover Re went with someone else. However, you'd expect the recruiting agency to let candidates know what's up instead of ignoring follow-ups. This is really unprofessional.
- What is your typical turnaround time for payroll processing?
Medical Consultant
So basically the first thing was I had an interview with HR and the hiring manager, it was pretty chill and conversational. Then I was asked to come in for a trial day, which was the last part of the application. The trial day itself was alright, I got a feel for the company culture and the team. But then HR let me know they weren't moving forward with my application because they had other candidates in mind. It really annoyed me that they didn't make this clear before wasting my time on the last stage. Like, what's the point of 'shortlisting' at the very end? That should have happened way earlier, during screening or the first interview. My advice to the company is to be way more upfront about their hiring process because the website description doesn't match the reality.
- What motivated your decision to pursue your master's degree?
Data Scientist
The interview process was terrible. One interviewer didn't even show up, and another was an hour late. The one who did show up on time was super unprofessional. They completely dismissed and invalidated my expertise, even though it was supposed to be the main requirement for the job. They apparently hadn't even read my CV and kept asking about a skill I don't have and wasn't even a big deal in the job listing. To top it off, they aggressively questioned my salary expectations, which were just standard for my qualifications. When I pointed out that the skill they were fixated on wasn't my expertise as per my CV, they got offended and then lectured me on needing to be diplomatic in this team. Honestly, the worst interview ever, a total waste of 1.5 hours.
- What are some standard interview questions you were asked?
