First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa.
Licensed Esthetician
I had a phone call and then an in-person interview. The phone call was supposed to be at 4:00 pm, but they called me at 10:00 am instead, with no heads up. I got to the interview 10 minutes early, but they showed up about 5 minutes late and then took another 25 minutes to get set up before calling me in. I asked about the foot traffic and how many clients they get, but they were really vague. Apparently, if you're not doing a facial, you don't get paid. One employee showed me her schedule, and it was mostly empty, except for one weekend where she had two appointments, making only $40. The interviewer was also talking badly about the other employees. After talking for an hour, and they basically insulted me for my experience level and I expressed my worries, I did a practical facial. They took their pants off during the facial, which was super weird and I have no idea why.
- Can you work full-time?
- Are you available to come in full-time?
Esthetician
It was a pretty straightforward interview process. The people were nice and asked good questions. They wanted to know about my background in esthetics and how long I've been working as an esthetician. The specific questions might change depending on the location, but they touched on things like facials, skincare, waxing, cryo skin, and knowledge of brands like Dermalogica, Image, and Clarity.
- How many years have you worked as an esthetician?
Front Desk Receptionist
It was really chill. They were looking for someone with sales experience and at least 2 years in customer service. Also needed computer skills and experience with multiple phone lines for the spa. The environment is fast-paced and the role involves event coordination. The interview itself was laid-back but they had specific requirements. I got to meet some of the team members.
- Can you tell me about a sale you made and explain your process?
- Describe a time you successfully closed a sale.
- How did you close a sale?
Esthetician
I got to the spa and the manager greeted me nicely, making things feel easy. We talked in a private office. She asked about my experience as a master esthetician, like my skincare treatment knowledge, how I deal with customers, and selling products. She really wanted to know how I customize services and connect with people. We also chatted about what it's like working there – teamwork, keeping the place clean and calm, and hitting sales targets. They asked about tricky client moments or making facials for different skin types, which let me show off what I know and how I interact with people. Some places might have you do a quick treatment or show massage skills, but it depends. It was a good chat where I could highlight my skills, learn about their services (like dermalinfusion or hot stone facials), and see if it was a good fit. It felt relaxed but still professional, which was nice.
- Tell me about a time you dealt with a difficult client and what you did to fix it.
- Can you share an instance where you had to manage a challenging client interaction, and what was the outcome?
- Describe a situation involving a difficult client and how you handled it.
