First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Hamilton Lane.
Project Specialist
The interview process was excessively long, with 12 stages taking 5 months for a junior role. The interviews were pretty standard, focusing on fit and interest in the job. After investing so much time, I heard nothing back after the final interview, even after following up. This was definitely my first and last time interviewing with them.
- Can you tell me why you are interested in HL?
- What do you know about our competitors?
Analyst
It was a long interview process, with about 8 to 10 rounds. It kicked off with an automated video interview, followed by a few in-person meetings. The process wrapped up with an Excel case study. The interviews covered everything from my motivations to my knowledge of the PE industry, and included personal and situational questions. Each person I spoke with had their own way of interviewing.
- What is your knowledge of the PE industry?
- What are your reasons for wanting to join our firm?
Actuarial Analyst
The interview process involved a mix of competency-based questions, inquiries about your motivation for joining the firm, and background checks. There were also situational questions and assessments of commercial awareness, such as discussing a recent financial news event that caught your attention and explaining your interest in the role.
- Could you share a recent financial news story that you found particularly engaging and explain why?
- What attracts you to this particular position?
Associate
First, there was an HR screening. Then, I had interviews with a Principal and a VP, each lasting 30 minutes, where we discussed the secondaries market and my knowledge of it. Next was an assessment, a timed Excel test focusing on Excel and finance concepts like calculating MOIC and IRR, not modeling. Finally, there were team interviews, each 30 minutes long.
- Tell me about why you are interested in secondaries.
- What is your understanding of the secondaries market?
- Can you explain how to calculate MOIC?
