Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Hamilton Lane.
Associate
First, there was an HR screening. Then, I had interviews with a Principal and a VP, each lasting 30 minutes, where we discussed the secondaries market and my knowledge of it. Next was an assessment, a timed Excel test focusing on Excel and finance concepts like calculating MOIC and IRR, not modeling. Finally, there were team interviews, each 30 minutes long.
- Tell me about why you are interested in secondaries.
- What is your understanding of the secondaries market?
- Can you explain how to calculate MOIC?
Associate
I had an initial screen with an external recruiter, then an HR screen over the phone. After that, I had a zoom interview with the hiring manager, followed by an on-site super day in the office with the team I would be joining. The whole process went pretty smoothly.
- Could you tell me about a deal from your resume?
Associate
So, first I had 2 phone screens with HR, then I had a zoom meeting with a bunch of investment pros and the head of the office. The last part was a case study, which was more about figuring out the good and bad points of the investment, what stuff I'd look into more, and basically if I'd go for it or not, rather than just crunching numbers.
- Why were you interested in this role?
- Can you describe your experience and background?
- What are your aspirations for your career moving forward?
