First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Hamilton Lane.
Analyst
It was a long interview process, with about 8 to 10 rounds. It kicked off with an automated video interview, followed by a few in-person meetings. The process wrapped up with an Excel case study. The interviews covered everything from my motivations to my knowledge of the PE industry, and included personal and situational questions. Each person I spoke with had their own way of interviewing.
- What is your knowledge of the PE industry?
- What are your reasons for wanting to join our firm?
Analyst
The interview process lasted about three to four weeks and included two phone interviews and two in-person interviews. The first in-person interview was a 4-hour quantitative Excel test. The entire process took about 3-4 weeks. I applied for the Senior Analyst position, but after weeks of being told I might get it, they offered me the Analyst position instead, which was unexpected and had much lower pay. It was quite disrespectful. If you have other offers in private equity or VC, you might want to consider those.
- Can you tell me why you are interested in Hamilton Lane?
Analyst
I met with several professionals and talked with them for about 30 minutes each. There was also an Excel test and a writing sample test. The team was mostly nice and easy to talk to. I'm a bit of an older candidate, and once I went into more detail about my past work experience, which showed my age, the vibe of the conversation shifted drastically, negatively, and the interview ended soon after. I never heard back, so I'm guessing it was a rejection.
