Research Assistant
Had a one on one chat over zoom. It was pretty chill, no real prep needed if you know your stuff. Overall, it was a good experience. They asked STAR questions like 'Tell me about a time...' and 'Give a difficult situation...' etc.
- Can you tell me about your scientific background?
- What skills do you have that are related to this role?
- What are your thoughts on compensation?
Graduate Student Researcher
The interview process was quite straightforward. It's advisable to connect with a Principal Investigator (PI) before you apply. Be truthful but also project confidence. Everyone involved is very approachable. Make sure to ask your questions, especially to the potential PI. It would be beneficial to review their published articles in advance.
- What are your primary objectives post-graduation?
- What are your plans for after you graduate?
- Where do you see yourself after completing your studies?
Enrollment Services Assistant
I applied back in June and then got contacted for an interview on August 27th. The actual interview happened on September 4th with three people from the Office of the Registrar team. It felt pretty straightforward, with a lot of questions that fit the STAR method and some specific ones about Banner. I was told it might take 2-3 weeks to hear back, but it's been three weeks now and nothing, so I'm guessing I'll get a standard rejection email.
- Could you share two strengths and two weaknesses that your previous supervisor would say you have?
- Can you describe a situation where you had to provide excellent customer service?
- Tell me about a time you faced and resolved a complex problem.
Communications Director
The process started with a 1-hour interview with the Dean and three other team members. This was followed by a longer, 4-hour in-person meeting. This in-person part included a meeting with the Dean, two more interviews with multiple people, and I had to give a presentation of a project online to the broader library staff. After that, they did a reference check. The final step was a 30-minute call with the GSU VP of Marketing & Communications. Honestly, the process felt pretty standard for a university. What really threw me off was being ghosted after putting in all that effort. I waited about two weeks after the VP call and didn't hear anything. When I followed up, I just got a generic email saying they were going with someone else, sent from the library's HR account. Looking back, I'm kind of glad I didn't get the job after that whole experience.
- Can you outline how you would develop a social media strategy for a forthcoming library event?
