I applied for the role when it first came out in August and didn't hear back until mid-to-late September. The first call was a basic screening where the hiring manager wanted to go over my resume and see how it fit the job. She also mentioned they had already checked my references and were keen to interview me. It took another week to get a date for the interviews. The actual interview was about an hour long with three people from the department. It was pretty straightforward with a list of questions, plus some follow-ups based on my responses. The vibe was relaxed and conversational, which made me feel comfortable. After the interview, I waited a week and a half before following up. I was told there were some scheduling changes and I'd get an update soon. About two weeks after the interview, I got the job offer.

I had a good phone interview with the hiring committee and then got an on-campus interview scheduled a couple of weeks later. I drove 5 hours and paid for my hotel myself. The interview was in the HR building and took 30 minutes, including a 5 minute pitch I had to prepare. I didn't get the job, but I probably wouldn't have taken it anyway. It just wasn't enough time for anyone to get to know each other. If this was just a formality for an internal hire, they shouldn't have invited grad students and should have covered travel costs.

The interview process was quite long and felt drawn out. It took up the entire day and involved meeting with various groups of people. There was a significant waiting period of several weeks between stages. The offered salary was on the lower side, and the expected working hours were long, often including nights and weekends. However, the colleagues I interacted with were great and very supportive.
