Technical Coding System Design

The whole process felt kinda messy from the start. I didn't even apply, they just hit me up with no real job details, just a quick company spiel. What should've been a chill intro chat turned into a two-hour tech deep dive, and it had to be during work hours. It ended up being split over two days, with the first session starting late 'cause of tech issues, and the second one got rescheduled last minute. They barely left any time for my questions in either. They were super vague about the actual job, like, what was the tech stack, how was the eng team set up, where would I even fit in? The system design part didn't really match what they hinted at, and we got stuck on basic backend stuff like filtering and pagination, so it felt kinda detached from actual engineering. Ended up being a 'not a mutual fit,' which is fine, but a quick intro chat early on would've saved everyone a lot of time.

Behavioral

Started with a recruiter call, which was pretty good. She shared company info and got me stoked about the mission. But then the HM interview really brought things down. The hiring manager seemed a bit checked out and not very welcoming. He really wanted to dive deep into specific examples, especially around prioritization and dealing with different stakeholders. I could tell he wasn't vibing with my answers, and when he talked about the company and the role, I didn't get that mission-driven energy from the recruiter call. Plus, the job sounded more like firefighting between various stakeholders. Regardless of whether I get a callback, this experience made the role seem way less appealing.

Behavioral Case System Design Presentation

It was a pretty standard process. Started with an HR screen, then a leadership screen with the hiring manager. After that, there was a case study interview, and then the onsite interviews. The onsite included a cultural interview, a system design interview, and an executive interview. The executive interview actually happened a couple days after the main onsite. During the last interview, I got the feeling the interviewer had already decided my fate before I even started talking. They ended up not moving forward with me because I didn't have enough EM experience, which was weird since I had more years of experience than they asked for. I kind of suspect they might have been trying to bait-and-switch me into a senior/staff IC role, as I've heard they've done that before. Also, that whole 'progressive feedback culture' thing they talked about felt a bit off to me during the interviews. The recruiter was nice enough to call me with the rejection instead of just emailing, which I did appreciate.

Behavioral Technical Coding

The interview process was pretty standard. I went through 4 interviews in total. The first was a phone screening to chat about my background. Then, I had an interview with the hiring manager, also focused on my background. The last two interviews happened on the same day. The first of these was a technical interview that wasn't LeetCode style, involving a simple live coding exercise related to healthcare. The final interview was a deeper dive into projects I've worked on, along with more technical questions.
