I had a 30 minute phone screen with the dev manager. That part went well, we got along and I enjoyed the conversation. The second part was a 60 minute technical interview. I was given a question that I felt was very basic, yet tricky. Although the interviewer was helpful and tried to move me along, he eventually cut me off and said "I think we are done here." Understandable because I was not going to be able to solve it. I tried to find a solution after the interview was over, but I still struggle with how to solve it. I feel that no amount of practicing general coding problems will prepare you for this interview. You either have a deep understanding of Swift or you do not.

The interview process began with a recruiter call, followed by two separate coding challenges. The coding challenges themselves were a negative experience because the interviewers were not senior developers. One interviewer was a junior developer and the other was fresh out of college. It's questionable why junior developers are interviewing senior candidates. The first coding challenge went okay and had an interesting task. However, the second interviewer was pretentious and uninterested in my background, focusing instead on an obscure JavaScript challenge. This challenge required deep knowledge of internal JavaScript behavior and was not well-designed. She then provided another challenge that was easily solvable without optimization. When I finished, she gave short, uninterested answers to my questions. Overall, it seems I avoided a bad fit given this interviewer's attitude.

I applied online and heard back about a week later about a phone screen with a team member. Then, two weeks after that, I had a phone call with the hiring manager. About a week after that call, I got a marketing interview prompt and an invite to interview onsite in SF, which included a presentation, several 1:1s, and an office tour. A few days later, I had one more follow-up Google Hangout interview. The whole process was pretty straightforward and the recruiting team was communicative. Even though it was challenging, I enjoyed the interactions and the interview presentation was the most fun I've ever had.

I applied and then had a recruiter call in Seattle. She was really nice and professional, asking good questions. The call took about 30 minutes. She told me what the job entailed, talked about the pay, had me go over my resume, and discussed the company culture. I got the green light for the next step, which was a webinar with the sales team lead based in Chicago, though he was in San Francisco for work at the time. He was also a great guy, asking personal questions and about my past work. A few days later, they made me an offer. It was a really simple process that helped everyone make a good decision.
