The interview process included a screening call, an interview with the hiring manager, and then an interview with three other people. After that, there was a take-home assignment followed by a presentation of the assignment. It was pretty tough, especially since it's an entry-level role, but it all felt relevant to the job.

So I had a recruiter call first, then a call with the hiring manager. This was one of the more annoying interviews. It wasn't hard, but I wasn't given time to speak. The interviewer seemed nice but really overwhelmed, like she was trying to cover a whole team's job. My events experience was weak, and she kept harping on it. I had to interrupt her to get a word in. Interviews should be conversations, and you need to let people talk. She probably just wasn't aware she was doing it, maybe because the role is so big.

The interview process started with an initial call with HR. This was followed by two interviews. The third and final interview involved completing a lengthy task. Following this final interview, the HR representative sent a rejection message and offered to provide feedback. However, despite chasing them 4-5 times over several months, I haven't received any response. This lack of follow-up is unprofessional, especially given the role's seniority and the effort invested in the interview and task. It's disappointing behaviour, and I would not consider applying to this company again due to the HR staff's conduct.

Financial Times Interview Questions

Quoted word for word from Financial Times interview reports.

Write a program that starts an HTTP server to translate English words to Gopher language. The Gopher language has rules: 1. words starting with a vowel get prefix 'g'. 2. words starting with 'xr' get prefix 'ge'. 3. words starting with a consonant sound move to the end and get suffix 'ogo'. 4. words starting with a consonant sound followed by 'qu' move to the end and get suffix 'ogo'. The server should take a '--port' command line argument. Implement a POST '/word' endpoint that takes JSON {'english-word': '<word>'} and returns JSON {'gopher-word': '<translation>'}. Optionally, implement POST '/sentence' to translate a sentence and GET '/history' to show past translations, ordered alphabetically. Avoid words with apostrophes or shortened versions.
