I did a written test then had an hour-long interview at FT's offices. They told me this was the final stage. It was a really friendly chat and they put me at ease. I think this might have been why they hired someone from inside the company though. I'm not sure if they were serious about hiring externally or just going through the motions.

I had 3 rounds of interviews for this role. It started with a phone call with the recruiter, then a video interview, and the last one was a presentation at their office. After over a month of interviewing, they offered me a job, but with a lower title than I applied for and a £7K salary cut because they felt I didn't have enough experience, which wasn't mentioned at all during the process. No salary range was ever discussed. I was pretty disappointed by the lack of transparency, felt like a waste of time.

The person interviewing me didn't seem to grasp the core responsibilities of a journalist covering a courthouse. Even though I detailed my extensive experience, I ended up getting an email rejection with no explanation.
