The Seattle EMC Isilon office had me take a full day off for interviews with each of the team members. The interview process wasn't super formal or hard, but it depended on the interviewer – some were easy, some weren't. Most people seemed nice. I felt some management tension when the employees interviewed me. HR and Management took forever to get back to me and after a full day of interviewing, they didn't even have the decency to email or call me to say I didn't get the job. It's unprofessional and disrespectful, and it makes me think that's how it might be to work for this company.

A connection from my old job who works at EMC sent my resume over to the hiring manager for a client project that was just starting up. I talked to the Project Manager for about 30 minutes over the phone, a week after sending my resume, and they asked about my general experience and specific tech background. The next day, I had another phone interview with the Technical Architect for 45 minutes, where we talked about specific projects I'd done using the same tech they were using. The following week, I had an in-person interview with the engagement lead at their NJ office, which focused on situational questions. The day after that, I had a chat with HR about salary and whether I'd be a good cultural fit. I was happy with their initial offer, so there wasn't much negotiation. Two weeks later, after background checks and other stuff, I was on client site.

I got a call from the recruiter who explained the role. After that, I had 3 phone interviews with Technology Directors, and then I met the team I would have been joining in person. The whole thing took about 2 months because they were pretty slow to get back to me; I had to follow up with about 10 emails and calls to keep things moving. It all seemed to go well, and then I was just waiting. After a week and a half of no response, the recruiter finally called to say that due to 'strategy changes,' they wouldn't be making an offer. I was bummed but also relieved it was over.

An internal recruiter reached out via LinkedIn. She did an initial screening call and then set up an in-person meeting with the regional manager. He's usually remote but visits the local offices often. There was supposed to be a follow-up with the local manager too, but that never happened. I'm not sure what went wrong, maybe a question I couldn't answer or lack of specific experience they wanted. I never heard back. The recruiter also didn't reply to my follow-up email. The manager seemed to be interviewing more on vibe than a set list of questions, probably went with who he connected with.
