Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at EMC Consulting.
Senior Consultant
A connection from my old job who works at EMC sent my resume over to the hiring manager for a client project that was just starting up. I talked to the Project Manager for about 30 minutes over the phone, a week after sending my resume, and they asked about my general experience and specific tech background. The next day, I had another phone interview with the Technical Architect for 45 minutes, where we talked about specific projects I'd done using the same tech they were using. The following week, I had an in-person interview with the engagement lead at their NJ office, which focused on situational questions. The day after that, I had a chat with HR about salary and whether I'd be a good cultural fit. I was happy with their initial offer, so there wasn't much negotiation. Two weeks later, after background checks and other stuff, I was on client site.
- In a competitive multi-vendor setting, how would you secure client business?
Consultant
The interview involved a phone call with technical questions, questions about my background, education, and future plans. The one-on-one meetings were more about personality and getting to know each other, a bit more casual.
- What are your long-term career aspirations?
Consultant
Applied on the company website, got contacted by a recruiter over a month later. Recruiter screen, then a technical screen where the interviewer forgot about the meeting and asked to reschedule. Then a behavioral interview, followed by a hiring manager interview where the manager was talking to his neighbor and put me on hold. The original recruiter disappeared and was replaced by another who acted like the first one was never involved. Finally, a face to face interview at HQ, which was mostly pointless as they asked questions and never let me answer. This last interview really sealed my decision.
- In your opinion, where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
