I applied for the Store Manager job on Indeed.com and did some online assessments. Then I got to pick an interview time. An email from CMRG confirmed my scheduling. A client relationship manager from Headway Workforce did a phone interview that lasted over an hour. It was a good interview where they asked a lot about management concepts and how I've used them, asking for examples. They mentioned the District Manager would call. The DM called the next Monday to schedule an interview, then called back to change the time. Later, I got another call to change the location due to a scheduling conflict. I went to the interview at a loud, distracting cafe. It was about an hour long. We talked about management style and I asked about what I'd read online regarding the casual male group, specifically about store conversions. I asked what would happen to the store I was applying for. The DM explained that two stores would be combined into a new DXL location, and only the best performing managers would be kept, with others being let go within six months. He said that if hired, I'd have six months to learn the company and outperform other managers, or I could be fired. I was still interested, and he said he'd decide in two weeks. It's been two months with no follow-up, not even a rejection. It felt like a waste of time, but I think it was for the best, as it doesn't seem like a company I'd want to work for based on others' experiences.

I met the district manager at a hotel for the first interview to talk about the company and what to expect. They were vague about salary, wanting me to accept an offer before revealing pay details. Then, before starting, I had a second round which included one-on-one interviews with the district manager and store manager, followed by a joint meeting with all three of us. This might have been unusual since the store was new when I joined.

I had 3 interviews for this Assistant Manager role. It took about a month to hear back after the initial interviews. Finally, I got a call about moving forward and they made an offer. The offer was for $7.88 base pay plus commission, which was a bit surprising after waiting so long.
