The entire process from applying to signing the offer took about 6 weeks. It involved an initial chat with HR, then a coding test with two parts: one about adding numbers from a string with delimiters, and another about writing some SQL joins. After that, there was a relaxed technical chat with the department head and a teammate, and finally, an interview with the head of HR.

The initial screening conversations with the Talent Acquisition Specialist made me feel like Descartes was genuinely interested in my thought process, collaboration style, and customer relationship approach. Following those chats, I was asked to put together and deliver a mock quarterly business review, and also do a role-play exercise. These practical and useful activities gave me a good sense of the customer relationships Descartes values. When a tech issue cut short my first chat with a senior leader, they were quick to reschedule, showing flexibility and respect for my time. The Talent Acquisition Specialist kept me in the loop throughout, and I really appreciated the transparency.

Technical Behavioral

The interview process started with a quick 15-minute screening call. Then, there was a 20-minute video interview with someone from the team, possibly a manager. I felt the questions were quite basic, more like junior-level, and I answered them all correctly. After a three-week wait with no feedback, they asked if I had another job offer. I mentioned I was in the final stages with another company. They took a few more days and then told me I was missing some required technologies, which I found inaccurate, given how easy the questions were and the time they took to respond.

Behavioral Technical Presentation Case

The interview process at Descartes Systems for the Account Executive role was overall a good experience, focusing on both technical knowledge and how you interact with people. On the plus side, the interview was structured well with clear stages and different interviewers who each had specific things they wanted to assess. The conversations were interesting and informative, and the interviewers seemed really into the company and the job. They balanced asking technical questions about the product with simulations to see how well you communicate and solve problems. I also got feedback pretty quickly, within a week for the initial feedback and then the final decision not long after that. A downside was that there were long waits between the interview rounds, which made things a bit uncertain. Also, after getting the final decision, there wasn't much communication about what the next steps were. I'd recommend this interview process to others wanting an account executive job at Descartes Systems. Just make sure you're ready to show off both your technical smarts and your people skills.
