Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Descartes Systems.
Digital Marketing Manager
This was a terrible interview experience. I went through over 6 rounds of interviews and completed a case study that took more than 10 hours of my time. They didn't even bother to inform me that they had decided to move forward with other candidates. After the final interview, I was told a salary that I accepted, but the final offer was 30% lower than what we agreed upon. They claimed it was because I didn't have 'suitable experience,' making the initial offer the high end of the range. This is absurd given I passed six interview rounds, including a case study and presentation. If experience was an issue, why extend an offer? Two other people have had similar experiences with this role's interview process. It seems this company prioritizes hiring the cheapest candidate and misleads them about salary. The entire process also dragged on for over two months. I'd advise anyone in the middle of this process to look elsewhere for companies that value their employees and offer fair compensation.

Digital Marketing Manager
It was about a month from the first call to getting the offer. They told me what to expect next. I had to do a big writing test, plus the samples I already sent. The hiring manager was good about telling me what was going on inside the company and setting expectations. It made me feel better during the process.
- Would you be able to do a fake customer interview and then write a case study based on it?
- Are you prepared to research and then write a blog post?
- Can you create ad copy to promote the content you wrote?
Event Marketing Manager
The interview process was super thorough and detailed, which is awesome because it means they really vet their employees! I went through three rounds. The first was in person with the Director I'd report to. The next two were over the phone: one with the person currently in the role, and the last with the VP. Before they made an offer, Descartes also sent out a questionnaire to my references and did a background check. All the interviews felt really comfortable, and the interviewers gave me a clear picture of the role. HR was really nice too and kept me updated on where I was in the process.
- Can you share some of your past experiences that relate to the tasks for this job?
- Can you explain how you would be able to perform the necessary tasks for this role?
