First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Cbeyond.
Sales Executive
First, you'll chat with a recruiter at their office, just a general talk about your past work and if you're a good fit. Be ready for some sales-related questions and also some STAR method ones. Then, you'll come in for a whole day with the team leader and manager. After that, you'll spend a day out in the field doing sales stuff, like prospecting. When you get back, you'll have a group interview with both supervisors to go over how your field day went. Expect questions about any tough parts of the field experience and how you'd handle them.
- The hardest part of the field trial prospecting is X. Can you give it a try by yourself?
Corporate Solutions Advisor
The interviews are spread out over three days. First, a recruiter calls you for vetting. Then, you'll have two manager interviews, one being a simulated phone call and the other a basic get-to-know-you chat. After that, you'll shadow a current CSA and then have a closing interview with the market and regional manager. During the shadowing, just observe and don't bother the CSA with too many questions, and definitely don't critique them. Lastly, there's a follow-up discussion with the recruiter after the second interview.
- How would you handle a fictional situation presented to you?
Sales Representative
You'll start with a phone/skype call with a recruiter to go over your resume and experience. If that goes well, you'll get to do a "day in the field" where you shadow a TSR. After that, you'll interview with the Sales Manager. This interview is mostly situational questions like "name a time when..." and questions about what's most important to you (money, recognition, etc.). Your goal in this interview is to close for the job or to be considered for the next step. If you advance, you'll interview with the VPGM for the branch. In Houston, there's a mock presentation with the VPGM, and you'll need to close for a meeting or deal.
- The hardest part of the interview is cold calling on the shadow day, where you'll have to take a "door" or two. Make sure to use the same language the TSR used in other doors and be outgoing.
- Similarly, in the mock presentation, be energetic and close for the next appointment or deal.
Sales Representative
I only really "interviewed" with this company one time, mostly because I cancelled a second interview after seeing tons of bad reviews online. My first interview was supposed to be in person in DC, and I even got a message saying they wanted me to come down there. I actually applied for a job in Atlanta but they called me from the DC office. When I finally got them on the phone, they somehow changed the interview scheduling call into an actual phone interview. Luckily, I'm always ready and can talk about my experience without missing a beat. This happened on a Tuesday afternoon, around 3pm, and they wanted me to be in DC for the interview the very next morning! I lived 3 hours away and had another job, so that was a no-go. I explained nicely and professionally, and they understood. We then figured out a good day and time for me to come up. If you're applying, just be ready! The questions aren't hard, but it doesn't matter if you're not even prepped for an interview you didn't know was happening.
- I was expecting to return a call to set up an interview but ended up doing a phone interview instead.
- Good thing I didn't call back while I was driving!
